Newborn sessions are so much fun because it’s like getting to step into a little family’s bliss. Even though I don’t shoot with families often, newborns are often some of the easiest little clients to work with because they just want to sleep the shoot away! Here are my best tips for your at-home newborn session-

1. Lighting: Plan on utilizing the areas in your home with the most light. The best light for at-home sessions is an hour or two after sunrise. Early morning sessions are always preferable for that soft, dreamy glow!
2. Timing: Don’t plan your newborn session for immediately after your due date. You want to give yourself time to feel comfortable being photographed & to get into a routine with your new baby. I normally recommend booking your newborn session for around two weeks after your due date!
3. Outfits: The NUMBER ONE priority is your comfort!! Wear something that’s easy to move in and helps you feel relaxed. You can wear a pretty dress or opt for a cozy PJ set, whatever feels more natural to you!
4. Personalize it: Make your session totally unique to you by incorporating some of your family’s routines. Whether that’s reading a book together or bath time, adding in real parts of your morning routine creates so much opportunity for candid, cinematic photos.
5. Flexibility: Be ready to go with the flow and try not to stress out if things stray off-track. It’s totally normal to need to pause our session to feed your baby or to do a last-minute outfit change because of a spit-up accident.
